Magic in Melpomenia

Felicity Redevelopment, Inc.’s annual fundraiser, Magic in Melpomenia, benefits the revitalization of Melpomenia, a historic New Orleans neighborhood with a variety of residential and commercial buildings near the downtown arts district and the Garden District. Thanks to Magic in Melpomenia’s generous patrons, FSRP continues to rebuild and repopulate Melpomenia.

MAGIC IN MELPOMENIA VI – MAY 19, 2011: Like pulling a rabbit out of a hat, there was Magic in Melpomenia at the historic Ponchartrain located on St. Charles Avenue. Our wonderful chairs, John and Bonnie Boyd, in conjunction with the honorary chairs, Beau and Avery Bassich, and our superb committee came together to create an enchanting evening. Patrons were invited to a cocktail party at six o’clock in the penthouse to experience a beautiful view overlooking the city. The evening’s event featured fare from thirty local restaurants, bars, and caterers. The art auction included works by George Schmidt, Willie White, Karen O. Edmunds, Malane Collins, Alan Gerson, Ainslie Phillips, Nell C. Tilton, Marjorie C. Ferguson, Nonie Lyons, Jacqueline Bishop, Vicki Lee, Carole Leake, Tim Trapolin, Clauzade, and B.F. Jonas. Thanks to our generous supporters, we achieved record donations, attendance, and fundraising at this year’s Magic in Melpomenia. Many thanks to all!

MAGIC IN MELPOMENIA V – MAY 20, 2010: Magic in Melpomenia V marked FSRP’s tenth year of service to the Lower St. Charles Corridor. The event was held at the eclectic home and yoga studio of Gary and Elizabeth Eckman on Baronne Street. Christel Kelley served as event chair, the Chris Edmunds Trio provided music, and several local restaurants provided a diverse and delicious menu. MIM V’s art auction featured art from Arthur Silverman, Karen Edmunds, Nonie Lyons, Zack Smith, John McCrady, Tim Trapolin, George Schmidt, George Rodrigue, among other local artists.

MAGIC IN MELPOMENIA IV – MAY 14, 2009: Magic in Melpomenia IV took place on May 14, 2009 at the old Hinder’s Iron Works building at Felicity and Prytania Streets. The event was one of the most “magical” yet, thanks to Event Chair Savannah Strachan and Honorary Chair Richard C. Colton. Pieces from artists such as George Rodrigue, Raymond Gaines, and George Schmidt made the art auction a special occasion.

MAGIC IN MELPOMENIA III – APRIL 17, 2008: Due to Hurricane Katrina, the third annual Magic in Melpomenia was held on April 17, 2008 at the historic home of Greg and Colleen Lusignan on Baronne Street. Townsend Jordon, Magic III’s event chair, pulled the event together with donated food from local eateries such as Zea, Houston’s, and Slice Pizzeria. Along with the rest of the attendees, Honorary Chairs Jackie Clarkson and Stacy Head enjoyed a twilight art auction conducted by Auctioneer Ruthie Winston. Contributing artists included Tim Trapolin, Jackie Bishop, and Diego Larguia, among others.

MAGIC IN MELPOMENIA II – MAY 19, 2005: FSRP hosted Magic in Melpomenia II at the beautiful Felicity Garden on Clio Street. The event was a huge success in no small part to Honorary Chairs Anthony and Gail Uglesich. Magic featured an art auction with pieces by George Schmidt, Phil Sandusky, Jim Blanchard, Jeffrey Cook, Alan Gerson, and many others. Over sixty people participated in the auction!

MAGIC IN MELPOMENIA I – MAY 20, 2004: Magic in Melpomenia I was a great success! Over 200 people attended the cocktail buffet. Live music by Jeremy Davenport and food provided by neighborhood restaurants such as VooDoo BBQ, Martin’s Wine Cellar, Bravo Italian Kitchen, and Uglesich’s made FSRP’s first-ever fundraiser truly magical.
